We are so pleased to be living near so much cool outdoor stuff. Despite the cold and wet weather, there is always a great outdoor place nearby to explore. One of our local favorites is Deception Pass State Park which is close to home on our island, Fidalgo Island and Whidby Island to the south. We packed a picnic and went hiking on a blustery day and really enjoyed the scenery. It is so beautiful, it is hard to believe we live here and are not just here on a short vacation.
Hiking on the bluffs overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca is a treat.
We continue to enjoy bird watching as well. The Audubon Society has a checklist of birds that can be seen in Skagit County and we are slowly checking them off. We visited the Skagit Wildlife Area – Wiley Slough which is a birding mecca.
Erik looking intently for one of the many hawks we saw.
One of the big attractions are the Snow Geese that fly down from the Russian Arctic to Skagit County every winter. On our drive home, we came across a field with thousands of them. Glad they were not flying overhead, or we would have needed an umbrella to deal with all the goose poo! Regardless, it was quite a sight.

Glad you are making the most of your new surroundings. It’s already getting hot and humid here and it’s only March. By mid-August, you are going to be loving life up in the cool NW. The locals say last Summer here was a bear. I got here in November…still “hot” to my Colorado blood. How’s the arm healing? I see you’re socially distancing (hehe). We all miss you.

Hi Kevin, the arm is slowly but surely getting better a little every day. Going on a mini road trip camping on the Olympic Peninsula. I suspect we will be wishing for that Florida weather!
