We finally had a change in weather.

On the beach at Montana de Oro State Park, Calif. It’s too sunny.
On a ridge above Wheeler Gorge campground, Los Padres National Forest, Calif. (You can see the Channel Islands in the distance.) It’s not really a desert, just semi-arid.

We made it to Joshua Tree National Park and slowed down to enjoy true desert.

There are lots of rocks in the desert. Some people even hauled in machinery to pound the rocks.

And there are cuddly animals.

Crossing the road.
Never ever touch a cholla–pieces jump off the cactus and stick you with barbed spines. This ladybug didn’t obey the warnings.
Meep meep!

Even the nights are scorching in the desert.

Those are GREAT pictures. I love the roadrunner, but you can keep the tarantula.
Happy camping,

Anne

Agreed! The road runner was cool. It was neat seeing a tarantula in the wild, but a bit creepy also.

Erik, this is unrelated to your road trip, but I wanted you to know that, based on your enthusiastic recommendation from a few years ago, we finally got to see ZZ Top in concert, right here in Savannah! Dusty may be gone but they still put on a helluva show!

Fantastic! We really enjoyed their concerts.

Hi guys, well you would have warmed up here this last week. We are setting all the wrong types of records for snowfall and temperature….and Covid. So far, most of us have been safe, staying outside and masking indoors, but now this O-variant…sheesh! Wonder when we will have access to cheap (or free) home testing kits?? Glad I’m not facing patients anymore: morons who think Bill Gates is injecting chips through a 27 ga needle. Is this a great country, or what?
Well, I’m just about to start flooring the “Irish pub” in the basement. Time your visit right and we’ll being tapping the Guinness keg, firing up the fireplace and racking the pool balls. Murphy bed and 3/4 bath are functional, plenty of bikes, and sun.
Love the photos and travel journal, and I too can furmish you with a roof puller.
Stay safe, get your third jab,
Kev
