Things have been quite busy since moving to Seattle. Erik has been working on boat projects and upgrades while we wait for the completion of our engine rebuild. In the meantime, we have enjoyed all that Seattle has to offer. I also have had the chance to pursue some really cool opportunities. Moving back to a northern climate has allowed me to join the ski patrol up at the Summit at Snoqualmie resort, which is about an hour drive into the Cascades from Seattle.
Ski patrol is something I have always wanted to do. I have completed some really cool training including emergency medical training, avalanche rescue, as well as nordic ski and alpine ski patrol skills. I am currently working on toboggan training and mountain travel/search and rescue. This has been sooooo much fun! The people on the ski patrol are cool, and there is a ski patrol lodge that allows us to stay overnight at the mountain for free. Not to mention getting to do a huge amount of skiing!
The other cool thing about being in Seattle is being able to connect with the local Penn State Alumni group. They have a large contingent of fans that gather at a local bar to watch the football games. It has been tons of fun, and one member of the group was in the Penn State Blue Band about a year after I was. He brings his trumpet to the bar and plays fight songs. Go State!

Looks like you’re getting plenty of snow…it’s been a good year here in colorful Colorado too. We’ll cross paths somewhere. I’ll likely be in Europe, as I’ve traded sails for rails, eventually in a cozy land schooner.
Lichty is getting WJ ready for Bahamas, Carla had some cutlass work done; both say the club isn’t the same without you guys. CGSC loss is the PNW gain. Let’s keep in touch.
p.s. I didn’t see the avalanche dogs, which was one of my fav things about patrol…goldens wrestling for hours in the hut
