Callooh! Callay! This is an expression of joy in the poem “Jabberwocky ” from the book “Through the Looking Glass”. That is the name of our new home and cruising vessel, a 1986 Catalina 34. We closed on the purchase last week and took two days to bring her from Olympia to her new home port in Seattle at Shilshole Bay Marina.

Callooh! Callay!

Captain Erik and Karen had a great time bringing her to Seattle with clear skies, views of harbor porpoises, seals and the snow capped Olympic mountains in Olympic National Park. We spent the night on a mooring ball at Blake Island State Park before proceeding to our slip in Seattle. We are really excited.

We have a list of upgrades and repairs that we are trying to accomplish so we can get out cruising! Will post more pictures once we get a little more organized.

Huge cranky seal at end of dock at our marina

The wildlife is amusing and different from what we are used to!

We are totally bummed that our trip back to Florida to see friends and family, then to the Bahamas had to be postponed due to the dreaded virus. We look forward to that being rescheduled! In the meantime, the State of Washington has issued a shelter in place order, so we are thankful to have a home to shelter in.

Congratulations! I have been eagerly awaiting this post. In a world turned upside-down, I wish you smooth sailing. Please keep the posts coming so we can vicariously live life on the high seas from our living room couches.

Hi Pam, if you ever make it out this way, come see us. Would love to take you and Dan for a sail.

Yay!! Congratulations, she’s a beaut! And Erik looks far more captain-ish with his beard. Bought our tix today, we’ll be in Seattle the end of Sept. Don’t know the exact date cause we’ll be driving up from LA…that is if things are back to somewhat normal by then…

Looking forward to seeing you in September!

Hi guys,
You are looking good, and I love your Catalina: stout, well designed and good performance. Can’t wait to see the details: draft, interior, heater. Getting used to the wheel and inboard engine? Good place to socially isolate, huh?
Denver is in full lock down, but we have had sunny 65 degree patio days with neighbors…6 feet apart!
I left the club the day before they closed down the launch, drove across country, stopping only at friends with farms (hehe).
Bahamas is also a nightmare, from what is said on Cruisers Forum. They are not encouraging any passages between islands, and food stuffs are slim. Getting back to the States from there is no picnic either.
I was one day out from crossing with buddy Vic, poised at Rodriguez Key then Pennekamp, mooring. Thank goodness the winds were unfavorable for crossing, perfect for Hawk Channel, and we got back to the sailing club.
Let’s keep in touch (oops, not that), and send more updates. The marina looks fantastic.
Take care,
Kev
