While traveling is always fun, it is also nice to get home. We regrouped from our trip, then went out cruising. S/V Callooh! Callay! enjoyed getting off the dock and anchored in Eagle Harbor at Cypress Island. It is a beautiful harbor surrounded by bluffs, beach and views of Mt. Baker. We were able to tie up to one of the many mooring balls in the harbor.

While there, we went ashore on the dinghy and met up with friends Mike and Sheryl, whom we originally met in Seattle on “O dock”, only to find out when we moved to “O dock” in Anacortes, that they were on “O dock” here before they moved to Seattle. Their boat is back in Anacortes and we enjoyed a bottle of wine on the beach. They also showed us some of the cool hikes on the island.

We have also had time to get involved in the Anacortes Yacht Club. The clubhouse is right next to our marina and is operated completely by volunteers. Erik and I just got our bartender licenses so we can help serve at the club bar. We have met so many nice people already and have enjoyed the Friday night happy hours, dinner out with friends and night caps on S/V El Vikingo.

The yacht club has a very active Wednesday night race series and we were invited by friend Tim to crew on his boat. There was a lot of wind and we made good time around the course, and came in first in our class.

Summer is the growing and harvest season here in Skagit County and we having been making good use of the Saturday farmer’s market which is adjacent to our marina. Yummy strawberries, cool bands and great weather make for a fun time.

We went for a hike in one of the many hiking areas around town, and stopped at the Blackrock Fish Market to pick up some fresh shimp and fish for dinner. The otter on our dock was chilling out scratching his back. We moved quickly along the dock to get back to the boat before the otter could realize the yummy seafood we had with us.
