Taking a break from boat projects, we spent some time enjoying our land based hobbies. We spent a day riding our bikes from our marina in Anacortes to a few breweries in the Skagit Valley. Riding on bike trails and country roads most of the way made for a relaxing day. Of course, a destination of beer is always rewarding.

We also took off for the Cascade mountains for five days of camping. We camped at a small National Forest campground that was quiet and in a perfect area to explore the mountains. We hiked every day. On the third day, we drove up a scary steep gravel road to higher elevation. We had to stop when the snow blocked the road. Not to be deterred, we parked the car and hiked up to the pass.

The last day, we hiked to Blue Lake which was again snowed in. This was only 5 miles round trip, but made exceptionally difficult due to the snow. The fact that people were unloading skis in the parking lot at the trailhead should have been a clue about the conditions. Nice views however!

The RAV 4 is happy to be able to go to the mountains and experience adventure!

Clearly, it’s not “The Rav.” His name is Bub. Bubba for “short.” 🙂

You two are certainly HARDY! Not even snowshoes?! Stay safe and have fun!

Hi Nancy – You are quite generous to use the term HARDY. I think FOOLISH might be a better description! We had fun regardless.
