COVID has certainly impacted the activities we can participate in with social distancing, and the broken arm has added to the challenge. Time to get creative! What can one do with these restrictions? We have been wanting to become more familiar with the local flora and fauna, so we decided to give bird watching a try.

We decided to start with seabirds since we live around water. The birds here are really cool and fun to try to identify. A lot of the ones we are seeing this time of year migrate from the arctic. We uploaded some cool bird identification apps which make it fun. Unfortunately, we have been unable to get any good pictures of birds. I guess that means we may need to take up learning photography next.

We have been spending a lot of time hiking the really nice trails in our area. The Oyster Dome trail is one of our favorites and we enjoyed a picnic lunch at the viewpoint.

Of course, we enjoyed pigging out on homemade nachos for the super bowl.

We had planned to go out bird watching yesterday, but then this happened.

A very rare winter snow storm blew into Anacortes. Didn’t think we would need to add a snow shovel to our sailing gear! We had fun going out for a walk and playing in the snow, which will likely melt in a day or so.

Of course, there is Karen’s one armed snow angel.

Does all this make Karen a “fallen angel” and you two “reverse snowbirds”? You two definitely have SPUNK!

They said tonight on the national weather that Seattle had the most snow in 52 years! Congratulations!
We are coming up one year (Feb. 21st) since we saw you two in Roseville, CA. I haven’t been back (nor seen Mike, Kerin or Karen) since. We just got our 2nd dose of vaccine and hope to venture out a bit from our small world next month, but continuing precautions, of course. Love you guys!

So glad to hear you got your vaccine. Looking forward to visiting again sometime in the future. I understand your plans for relocating to Ohio are coming along and can’t wait to hear the details!
