Moorage is hard to come by in the Puget Sound area given the huge popularity of sailing and boating in this beautiful part of the world. Finding a slip where you can liveaboard is even harder. Erik and I put our names on multiple waiting lists a few years prior to leaving Florida. We were able to find temporary liveaboard moorage at Skyline Marina in Anacortes, on the west side of Fidalgo island where we have resided for the last six months. We were only going to be able to keep that slip until this coming spring. Thankfully, our names came up to the top of the list at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes, which is in town on the east side of the island. I couldn’t help thinking about the theme song to the TV show, “The Jeffersons”, when we cast away from the dock to our new home.
No need to hire movers when you live on a boat!
Our new marina is really nice. It is right in “downtown” Anacortes and we can walk to grocery stores, hardware stores, marine supply places, the post office, and bars and restaurants. There are a million boat yards, a ship yard, commercial fishing fleets, and all things nautical in this town which is really cool.
The views from the bluff over the marina are quite spectacular.
We moved the day before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we did not feel comfortable celebrating the holiday with friends, but we had a great time negotiating our galley cooking a full Thanksgiving dinner.
YUM!
We also have taken this socially distanced time to work on more boat improvements. The table in the salon is designed to be lowered to create another sleeping area. This makes it functional for a sleeping area, but not so much for a table as the size and shape make it very difficult to get in and out, or comfortably lounge on the settee. We removed the original table and put in storage. The new table is butcher block material that we cut to size and shape, then treated with urethane.
West marine throwable cushions make great saw horses! Well, not really but they worked well enough for our project. The warning label on the cushions tell you not to wear them on your back, but it didn’t say you couldn’t use them for carpentry.
The new table is much more functional and gives us more living space. Great project!

Nice going, you two, on both the move and the new table, and a belated happy Thanksgiving! Ours was also just a two-person affair. More pumpkin pie that way! Are you going to keep the old table stored away somewhere so you can convert the settee into a guest bed?

Glad you had a good thanksgiving. Yep, we kept the old table for that purpose!

I notice heaps of blue skies and puffy white clouds, beautiful vistas with unlimited visibility in your photographs. Are you sure you’re in Puget Sound? Shouldn’t Erik be constantly holding a cup a Joe?
Well, wherever you are, you are inspiring. We all miss you doing your Turkey day bash, and I didn’t have to finish off 10 pounds of uneaten mashed this year. We couldn’t have done it anyway, huh?
Thanks for the update, and I think of you as I pass by your old digs on the way to HD. Cheers for the holidays guys.
Love, Kev

Your new home and table are fantastic! Sure hope the vaccine allows us to come out there before too long.
