Living in Anacortes has allowed for some fun adventures close to home. We decided to explore Guemes Island, which is immediately north of Fidalgo Island which is the island Anacortes is on. We rode our bikes to the ferry terminal that serves Guemes Island and off to a new adventure!

The ferry to Guemes is quite small, more like a mini floating parking lot. There were almost as many bikes as cars. When it was time to load the ferry, we walked our bikes down the gangway and stood on the ferry deck with the other bikers, cars and cargo.

They pulled a barrier shut and off we went!

Masked up for COVID and cruising on the ferry across Guemes Channel.

Cargo is loaded onto wheelbarrows and pushed onto the ferry. The delivery driver for this load of ice cream for the general store, pushed the wheelbarrow onto the ferry and called the general store, who sent someone down to the dock on the other side to retrieve it. Erik and I volunteered to keep an eye on the ice cream. They wouldn’t notice a few missing would they?

We rode our bikes around the south half of the island and went on a hike to a nice view. Great to have this fun day trip in our backyard!
