Road Trip! After doing a lot of sailing and activities around Anacortes, we decided it was time to hit the mountains. We took a two week car camping trip to the Cascades, staying in Yakima for one weekend. The first week’s camping spot was just east of Rainier National Park. We got in some awesome hiking every day! We hiked to some waterfalls and braved the cold water to take a refreshing shower. The next day, we hiked up to Goat Rocks peak and had a picnic overlooking Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams in the background.

We also spent a day hiking in Rainier National Park. The views of the glaciers and the wildflowers were nice.

We completed a long hike with a lot of elevation gain. Thankfully, the snow on the trail was mostly melted so no ice axe needed!

The most important crop in Yakima is of course the hops. They produce nearly 75% of the nation’s hops! The vines are huge and can grow as much as 12 inches a day. We drove around the endless hops fields and sampled the final product at the local breweries.

We returned to the Cascade mountains the next week and spent another week camping. Our campground was SW of a town called Leavenworth. We hiked up to an area called “The Enchantments” and took in the views including a nice alpine lake. We also saw a mountain goat!
