Moving along

We left the gulf coast of Mississippi yesterday morning for a long drive to Houston. Yum, had some fantastic Cajun food along the way! Made it to Houston and exchanged our leaky tent for a different one. Keeping fingers crossed. Currently in the booming boarder town of Del Rio doing laundry. Heading out tomorrow for a week at Big Bend National Park.

Glamping

Spent 3 nights at the black water river state forest in the Florida panhandle north of Pensacola. It rained a good part of the time but we got some hiking and book reading in. The frog serenade at night was amazing. . We are so used to backpack camping. When you have to carry everything, you definitely rough it. Not now! We have a huge tent you can stand up in, chairs, giant air mattresses Read more…

Weather hysteria

Severe weather was in the forecast for the panhandle and we decided being in a tent with tornadoes and hail might not be a good idea. (Although if we had been on s/v ms Mary Lou, no problem!). We opted for motel 6 in destin to weather the storm. Oh darn, nothing to do but hang out at the local tiki bar drinking $3 margaritas and listening to music! Heading off today to black water Read more…

We’ve got gas

We haven’t seen a BP station along this stretch of coast—maybe they still hold a grudge over some little accident that happened a few years ago. But we appreciate it. In the meantime, there are other sources of gas. Some come tightly corked, and others are cut wide open: with butter, garlic, and Ouzts too.

Beaches with no condos?

Made it to the Florida panhandle with visits to the Saint Marks Wildlife Refuge and camping at St George Island State Park. Coming from Miami, it is hard to believe that beaches exist that are not lined with condos. What a treat! Went on a cool hike at St George Island State Park and found this amazing spot on the water.

On our way…almost

Happy New Year to all! We packed up the mini cooper with all the gear necessary for a several month “glamping” trip across the country and departed Miami in the morning on December 31st. We are currently having a fantastic visit with family in Central Florida and Tampa area. Ran into a snag on the way to family in Central Florida with a car overheating problem. Thankfully, the problem occurred while we were departing from Read more…
